The Healthspring Office
The Healthspring office at Forbes was born out of a need for expansion, as this start-up company saw a growth spurt and needed to relocate to a larger space. As the headquarters of a young company, it was essential the new office beautifully embodied the vision and mission of the company, while imbuing a strong sense of community and belonging.
Beginning with a bare shell in a beautiful heritage building, the design incorporated all these elements in a bold open plan office which managed to feel luxurious in terms of space and light, while working within tight budget and timeline constraints.
The generous entrance foyer has glass doors that provide a peek of the striking orange conference room within. The oval conference room is at the heart of the plan, with private cabins for the senior management around the periphery, overlooking beautiful vistas of the Fort area in Mumbai. The open plan creates a strong sense of community, as does the playful cafeteria, while at the same time being space efficient.
The use of glass and rubber wood helps to create a light and transparent feel. The tree that grows around the conference room is inspired by the company’s logo, as is the colour palette. The ceiling height is maximised in the central office area which helps to expand the flow of space. The exposed ducting adds to the start-up feel while helping maintain the ceiling height.
The cabins have desks oriented along the wall, which opens up the space, and allows for both focus on work, as well as informal meetings through a simple reorientation of pose. A riff on the famous Chandigarh chairs feature here, with a more modern and slim profile, and softboards and blackboards are integrated into the design for a playful and functional touch. The large and vibrant signage on the cabins and meeting rooms helps to create a sense of place while also affording privacy.
Over the years the office has become a bedrock of Healthspring’s mission and identity, a happy home for employees, and a distinctive and bold assertion of identity for clients and collaborators.
